Happy #internationaldogday. Today we give a big shout out to Killin search dog Alfie.
Search dogs are one of the most effective tools we have when looking for missing people in mountains. Alfie is also part of SARDA Southern Scotland and attends callouts both as part of our team and further afield with his search dog responsibilities. Alfie is without doubt the busiest and best team member we have.
Behind every good search dog is a handler who commits hundreds of hours to training and rescues each year. Being a search dog volunteer requires you to take on additional commitment over and above being a team member. Alfie’s handler Richard does just that in addition to our being deputy team leader, Richard attended close to 50 call outs in last year over and above training and responsibilities with both teams.
